With support from collaborators across the university and the Triangle, the VX Lab recently received a $16K award to begin building a strong presence in user experience.
User experience is an emerging discipline that considers the broader human impacts of technology. For example, rather than being content to study the speed and accuracy of an app, a user experience researcher would also be interested in how people feel after using the app, whether they want to use it again, and whether it affects their thinking or behavior in any way.
Collaborators met last week at the community design firm New Kind to discuss possibilities. Among the attendees were faculty from the Colleges of Engineering, Design and Humanities & Social Sciences, as well as representatives from New Kind and local medical software firm Allscripts. Enthusiasm was high, and everyone agreed that we should organize a larger and more public meeting soon. Stay tuned!
